Sporting Clays found on a Typical Sporting Shoot!
Taste of Game! The British Association of Shooting & Conservation -BASC, along with Sycamore Shooting Ground, organised several clay pigeon shoots which were followed by a visit to our local Pubs! The shooters were then served with a delicious meal prepared from the traditional game species shot & hunted in the UK. |

Compare Over & Under with a Semi-Auto!
Given the chance to shoot the same targets on successive shoot days, I took the opportunity and used my Benelli Vinci and Miroku Mk38 to compare my performance with each gun.
It proved that I do swing faster with the Semi! However there was more recoil with the Over & Under.

Gun Movement- An example of poor gun movement. All too frequent I'm afraid!
To be honest I think my focus shifted briefly to the other target.

Shooting from the platform at Nottingham Sporting Clays! - "Low Flushed & a Quartering Incomer"
Simultaneous Overhead Pair! Where each of the targets flank either side of a very bright sun!
Needed the darkest lenses in for this one!

Edge on Teal. This stand was set up as part of our local Inter Pub Clay Shooting Competition. Very competitive and a great occasion!
Sporting Clays - Right to Left Simultaneous or "True" Pair!
More Crossing Targets but this time its a slightly quartering away simultaneous pair. These were shot on a very misty day at Quarry Farm in Derbyshire. The cartridges proved to be very messy, on some shots, throwing out a lot of bits! (Fibre wadding) |
Flushed Pair Driven by a High Wind!
Battered by a strong wind this Flush Pair proved unpredictable and challenging targets. On one occasion, following a miss with the first barrel, the targets converged giving the chance of hitting both targets with the second barrel. However, as often happens in these situations, one of the targets inexplicably flew on, unscathed! |
A 3 Shot - 12 Gauge Pump Action.

Shooting an Overhead Flush using a 3 Shot Pump Action.
In the UK Pump action shotguns would not be used on a formal game shoot and many regard them as not suitable for Clay Pigeon Shooting. However, they do have a place for rough shooting, pigeon clearance and wildfowling.

Sporting Clays - 5 Stands!

A sample of the targets shot in the local inter Pub competition at Bradfield on the outskirts of Sheffield, England.
It was a cold rainy evening!
